Climate Policy Institute is being established in collaboration with Mathias Corvinus Collegium and Századvég Foundation.

One of the greatest challenges of the 21st century is the accelerating pace of change in the Earth’s climate, which is affecting all the human civilization. Adaptation and mitigation of harmful effects require the transformation of the economic system, the rethinking of a number of national and international regulations: this calls for the cooperation of several disciplines, governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as mediation between scientific researches and administrative areas. Climate Policy Institute intends to play this intermediary role.

MCC, Századvég Foundation, and Migration Research Institute, are cooperating in order to create a new professional workshop. Scientific and analytic background of the founders, as well as their platforms for communication ensure that Climate Policy Institute can reach as many affected actors as possible, and broad sections of society. The founding professional leader is György Kerekes, environmental lawyer with both international and domestic public administrative experience.

Climate Policy Institute will not focus on juxtaposing scientific results, but will provide help for decision-makers, from the governmental to local governmental level, and provide credible information on climate change for the general public. The Institute will be seeking to gather domestic and international research findings as well as experiences, will organize professional forums, conduct further research, and formulate feasible proposals.

In the next weeks, the Institute is visiting domestic researchers and experts committed to combating the effects of climate change and will examine the forming practices of other countries, and use these experiences to take part in the implementation of the Hungarian Climate Action Plan.
