Since Dan Senor and Saul Singer's 2009 bestseller - Startup Nation: The Story of Israel's Economic Miracle - the country has shined: world leader in R&D spending as a percentage of GDP (5.4%), number one in VC investments per capita ($2,850), one startup per 1,400 people, 44 unicorns (startups valued at more than $1 billion) and more than 350 R&D centres of global companies. Although the future is full of challenges. How to transform a startup nation into a scaleup nation? What policies are needed when the success is no longer about global giants taking over the startups, but about strengthening the startup ecosystem of the country? How to keep up in a global race with exponentially growing new technologies? As many countries in Europe are facing the same challenges, this debate about Israeli and European experiences could help in finding feasible answers.
