The importance of common sense was highlighted by Kevin Roberts, President of the Heritage Foundation, who came to Budapest at the invitation of the Danube Institute and Mathias Corvinus Collegium. The event called MCC Budapest Lectures started with the Keynote Speech of John O’Sullivan, President of the Danube Institute, and continued with the discussion of Gábor Csepregi, Visiting Fellow in MCC, and the lifelong educator Kevin Roberts.
The main topic of the lecture was education, without which, there is no future according to the participants and its importance is unquestionable. At the same time, education policy is constantly facing challenges. In his speech, John O’Sullivan, President of the Danube Institute, pointed out that education has four basic objectives, including the search for truth and preparation for the world of work. The current education system suffers from several flaws, as it is weighed down by bureaucratic rules, he added.
Kevin Roberts stressed the importance of common sense. By common sense, the American expert means the knowledge that can be gained from observing nature. He also pointed out that today the state is increasingly dictating what and how children learn, rather than families. "There is also a growing perception that children belong intellectually to the state," Roberts stressed. The expert also pointed out that despite the fact that the education system receives more and more funding from the federal budget every year, the quality of education in the US is declining. This is because common sense disciplines are being replaced by philosophies such as race theory. Kevin Roberts then drew attention to the growing prevalence of Neo-Marxism, which the American specialist considers to be very damaging.
