Peter Boghossian, American philosopher and author of several internationally acclaimed publications and best-selling books, is to be among the guest lecturers at Mathias Corvinus Collegium.

He has also worked at Portland State University and will join MCC's international team of distinguished lecturers for a month in February 2022.

Born in Boston, the American philosopher and educator taught philosophy at Portland State University for ten years, focusing on critical thinking, scientific scepticism and the Socratic method. Boghossian is one of the three instigators of the Grievance Studies scandal that rocked the US academic world in 2018. Together with his colleagues James A. Lindsay and Helen Pluckrose, they have published a series of nonsensical hoax papers in academic journals parodying the language and content of much research in modern humanities. They have presented absurd topics, thereby highlighting how easy it is to spread misinformation and present it as scientific, even in areas such as gender theory. Following an investigation, he was restricted by the University of Portland and subsequently resigned in a public letter in September this year. In his resignation letter he also cited restrictions on freedom of expression.

Peter Boghossian is the author of several bestselling books, including How to Have Impossible Conversations: A Very Practical Guide. In addition to Portland State University, he has previously worked, among others, at the University of Phoenix, Linfield College, and DeVry University. Since 2019, a visiting lecturer at the Reason Foundation, a think-tank, non-profit organization founded in 1978. Over the past two decades, he has been a guest lecturer at a number of institutions, including Stanford University, the University of Oregon, the University of Texas, as well as The Liberal Club, Sovereign Nations, and Aspen Counterpoint. He has been the subject of high-profile articles in major international publications such as The Economist, the Times and Die Welt.

Peter Boghossian will arrive at Mathias Corvinus Collegium next year and will spend a whole month in February 2022 at the talent center. He will give lectures and seminars to students and will be an active participant in MCC's professional programs both in Budapest and in numerous MCC training centers in the countryside and abroad.
