The 2021 Bundestag elections German citizens will elect the representatives of the 20th German Federal Parliament. On 26 September, it is not just a new parliament that will be elected. Angela Merkel, Germany's first female Chancellor since 2005, will not stand for re-election after 16 years.  She led the CDU for eighteen years, until 2018. The euro crisis, climate protection, the nuclear power plant shutdown after the Fukushima disaster, the migration issue and the Corona crisis have marked her chancellorship.

The new composition of the federal parliament will be announced later in the evening, along with who of the three candidates - Armin Laschet (CDU), Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Annalena Baerbock (Greens) - will succeed Angela Merkel. We will first discuss expectations for the Bundestag elections and then watch the live election coverage together. After the announcement of the election results, we host a panel discussion entitled A brief analysis of the election results. This will be followed by a panel discussion on the impact of the election results on Eastern and Central Europe.
