Growing up brings many difficulties and struggles for everyone. Teenagers are often forced to face the hard questions of who they are, what they believe in, and what they want to do with their lives. Young adult novels and fantasy may touch the minds of many adolescents because they show the process of transformation and growth through the hero's overcoming of various obstacles and challenges. In many ways, this mirrors the experiences of teenagers as they deal with the problems of adolescence, including facing the expectations of their peers and adults, finding their place in the world, and dealing with the pressures of society.
The discussion will focus on the literary theme of growing up in the light of Éric L'Homme's novels for young adults, with a special focus on the trilogy "The Book of Stars". It seeks to explore how L'Homme portrays his adolescent characters who reach maturity through the challenges of growing up, such as identity formation, social expectations, and personal agency. During the discussion, we will also explore how L'Homme uses themes of magic and fantasy to shed light on issues of growing up, such as human relationships, social structures, and personal development. Through this discussion, students will gain a deeper insight into the complex themes underlying L'Homme's young adult novels and how they reflect the broader issues of adolescence and growing up.
