Prof. Dr Matthias Herdegen is Director of the Institute for Public Law and Director of the Institute for International Law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn. He was born on 2 March 1957 in Schwarzenbach am Wald/Bavaria. His academic focus is on German and foreign constitutional law. With regard to international law, he deals, among other things, with the issues of international security, human rights and "good governance". In addition, he is intensively involved in European law and international economic law. In addition, he is considered a recognised expert on Latin America - the University of La Gran Colombia and the Pontifical University Javeriana (Bogotá) awarded him honorary doctorates in law. He has lectured as a visiting professor at the Global Law School of New York University, the University of Paris I (Sorbonne), the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) and the University of St. Gallen (HSG), among others. Herdegen is a long-standing member of the Human Rights Committee of the International Law Association and has been a member of the Sixth Advisory Board of the Federal Academy for Security Policy since 2012.
