MCC Welcomes New Cohort of Budapest Fellowship Program

We are happy to announce the official launch of the fifth year of the Budapest Fellowship Program (BFP), in collaboration with the Hungary Foundation. This September, five American researchers—Charles Yockey, Daniel Whitehead, Evelyn Whitehead, Helen Roy, and Matt Roy—arrived in Hungary to begin a ten-month journey of research, teaching, and cultural immersion.

The St. Jupát Sailboat, which Circumnavigated the Globe Four Decades Ago, is Relaunched on Lake Balaton

On September 4th, MCC, in collaboration with the Hungarian Museum of Science, Technology and Transport relaunched the legendary St Jupát on Lake Balaton – the boat hand-built by Nándor Fa and József Gál and used by these two brave sailors in 1985 to circumnavigate the globe in 717 days, touching the shores of 12 countries and becoming the first Hungarians to sail around the world in this 31-foot vessel.

Is Germany Facing a Political Earthquake? - Live Coverage and Analysis of the Saxony and Thuringia State Parliamentary Elections

The German election year continued on September 1, 2024, with two important state elections in the East German states of Saxony and Thuringia. Since political dissatisfaction with the current direction of the federal government coalition is most evident and drastic in East Germany, this is perhaps one of the most significant political events of the year in Germany. The German-Hungarian Institute hosted a live broadcast of the event at MCC, and, with the help of invited experts, also analyzed the preliminary results.

Die Tagespost: Hungary in Focus

On August 29, an eight-page supplement was published in the German Catholic weekly newspaper Die Tagespost, in which our researchers analyze Hungary's situation from various perspectives, such as the country's family and migration policies, historical memory, and the situation of minorities. The articles also discuss Hungarian public life from economic, historical, cultural, and geopolitical aspects.
