Cities and megacities of the Western civilisation are nowadays often referred to as places of alienation, as mere dwelling places for isolated individuals instead of real communities. This seems to be in sharp contrast to the significance of cities in European history. How can this contradiction be resolved? What lessons can be drawn for today's city dwellers from the history of ideas of the European cities? The panellists will seek answers to these questions in the context of Ferenc Hörcher's most recent book on he Political Philosophy of the European City.
